Middlesex Women's Desi League Comes To Cedars

Cedars Youth & Community Centre will be teaming up with the Middlesex Women’s Desi Football league to give Asian females an opportunity to play more football over the Sport Relief weekend. It has been demonstrated that there is a growing demand of more females taking up the sport.

The Desi division was created to encourage more females from Harrow and Brent to participate in football. By forming the league it showed Asian females that there is a league out there that caters to their needs, it is the first of its kind in the capital. The league organisers decided to start on a small scale by having four teams involved in pilot project to gauge the reaction of the teams.

The one day open event takes place at Cedars on Saturday 22nd March between 12 - 3pm. This event is in partnership with Harrow council and Watford FC with the help of Middlesex FA. This open day is aimed at females who have a passion for football to get involved in the sport. Various football challenges like a penalty shootout, 10 shot challenge, crossbar challenge, keepy uppy’s and hit the target. The challenges are set to test the girls’ skills but also mostly importantly encourage them to have fun taking part in football. Trophies and medals will be handed out to first and second place. The girls coming along to the open event day will have a chance to meet two Watford Ladies FC players Katie Knell and Renee Hector. The will get a chance to ask them about their experience and how they got involved in playing football.
